The Great Kat – Beethoven’s Egmont Overture For Guitar, Actor And Symphony Orchestra. In 1809, Beethoven was asked by the Vienna Burgtheater to compose incidental music to Goethe’s revolutionary play “Egmont.” Beethoven loved Goethe’s drama, written in 1788, which mirrored Beethoven’s own defiant revolutionary era ideas, a running theme in Beethoven’s operas and symphonies (such as “Fidelio” and “Eroica”) and Beethoven began composing his masterpiece. The Egmont drama is based on fact: in 1568, Egmont, a famous Count and Dutch warrior, protested against the Inquisition. At the bequest of the King of Spain, The Duke of Alba was sent to the Netherlands to meet Egmont. The Duke invited Egmont to dinner, whereupon Egmont was immediately arrested and charged with religious heresy. Egmont was sentenced to death, but although given the opportunity to flee by supporters, he refused to escape. Before his execution, instead of showing fear or anger, Egmont approached the execution block with unflinching dignity, and became a revered martyr. Before his execution, Egmont shouted the famous lines, “I die for freedom. Fall joyfully, as I give you an example!” Beethoven goes beyond Goethe’s radical drama, by adding the powerful Egmont Overture and incidental music to the text; creating one of the most indelible genius works in history. The Great Kat takes Egmont another step further, by shredding Beethoven’s music on GUITAR & VIOLIN, and narrating Egmont’s final words with ominous screams on the original text from Goethe, in GERMAN! The Great Kat, Juilliard grad violin virtuoso and “Top 10 Fastest Shredders Of All Time” (Guitar One Magazine), is the only guitar/violin double virtuoso shredding Beethoven’s masterpieces at high speeds and bringing his genius music to a whole new generation with metal. The Great Kat, “Reincarnation of Beethoven”, continues her celebration of Beethoven’s 250th Birthday year with this revolutionary new recording.
