- Our Interview with The Great Kat

- The Great Kat has been called
"The Speediest, Scariest Female Shredder of all time!" While that may be true,
she was kind enough to do this interview with us, & send us a huge promotional package
that included her latest CD "Wagner's War" a video for her song "WAR",
several cool photos, and a lot of printed material such as magazine & news articles
concerning her musical history.
- The Great Kat is a Julliard Graduate
who was trained as a classical violinist. She made the switch to guitar and has been
awarded as one of Guitar One Magazine's top 10 fastest shredders of all time! She has a
unique style combining speed, thrash & classical music, with death metal style vocals.
We think her unique blend is INCREDIBLE & SOUNDS FANTASTIC!!!

MF - How old were you when you
first picked up the violin and what made you decide on that instrument???-
- THE GREAT KAT: The Great Kat
Violin/Guitar Virtuoso began studying the violin at the age of 9, after seeing a violinist
playing on TV and hearing Jascha Heifetz play the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto.
- MF - How long did you study at
Juilliard???

- THE GREAT KAT: The Great Kat was a
Full Scholarship Student of the Juilliard School for Violin and studied there for 6 years
and graduated with honors. I am the Winner of the Artists International Competition on
Violin, among numerous other competitions around the U.S., was Concertmaster of the
Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra and gave my Carnegie Recital Hall Debut on Solo Violin.

- MF - When did you discover
"Metal" and who were some of the first metal bands you ever listened to???

- THE GREAT KAT: After graduating from
The Juilliard School and realizing that CLASSICAL MUSIC WAS DEAD, I searched ALL forms of
popular music and came across SPEED METAL!!!!!!! The POWER and ENERGY and VIRTUOSITY of
SPEED METAL is THE ONLY form of music that actually FITS with the COMPLEXITY and
VIRTUOSITY of Classical Music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of the first bands I heard was AC/DC,
Megadeth, and others.

- MF - Where did you come up with the
idea to combine Metal and Classical music???

- THE GREAT KAT: After deciding to
RESURRECT CLASSICAL music, I decided I had to MIX it with SPEED METAL to bring it to the
21st Century. I began taking my violin solos and placing them in Speed Metal Guitar to
INVENT SHRED/CLASSICAL MUSIC.
- THEN The Great Kat began
SYSTEMATICALLY taking ACTUAL, AUTHENTIC CLASSICAL SCORES FROM BEETHOVEN, WAGNER, BACH,
PAGANINI, VIVALDI and OTHERS and TAKING EACH EXACT NOTE and REORCHESTRATING and ARRANGING
THE ENTIRE score in my SIBELIUS Composition and Notation Software, which I RECOMPOSE these
MASTERPIECES for the for SHRED METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
