"BEETHOVEN'S GUITAR SHRED" DVD
REVIEW IN THE GRIMOIRE
By Bill Zebub, The Grimoire
The Great Kat has stamped a place in metal as not
only a virtuoso but also as a fiery character. She has taken risky
chances by being so bold. That stance may repel some people. As long
as the Great Kat wears her seductive garb and moves around the way
that she does there is very little that she can do to repel me. This
DVD is a collection of her performing as a metal maiden, and the
music videos are as enticing as they are entertaining. It is indeed
a treat to see any person play instruments at such punishing tempo
and it is equally impressive to hear each distinct pluck of the
string, whether the vibrations be of the guitar or violin. Adding to
the display of dexterity is the Great Kat's personal touch of
visuals and atmosphere. If I ever were to talk to her, I would ask
her why she chose to play Beethoven's music with such speed. He was
a composer of two styles, Classical and Romantic. As such, one would
expect a sort of "swoon" from the music, but SEEING the Great Kat
actually accomplishes that. The length of the DVD is a bit short,
but some would say that size doesn't matter when you know what to do
with it.
