Synopsis
The Great Kat – Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony for Guitar and Symphony Orchestra. Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony (Symphony #3) was composed in 1803-1804, marking the beginning of Beethoven’s heroic “Middle” period of composition when he expanded Classical Music with “Romantic” styling and themes. This symphony was originally dedicated to military revolutionary Napoleon Bonaparte, whom Beethoven believed was a democratic leader attempting to get rid of the monarchy for equality of the working class, the impetus for the French Revolution. Beethoven originally called his symphony “Bonaparte Symphony”. When Beethoven found out that Napoleon crowned himself Emperor of France in 1804, Beethoven was furious and maniacally tore off the title dedication page of his symphony, scratched out Napoleon’s name and changed his symphony’s title to “Eroica” (“Heroic”) Symphony.
